Man shot dead, deputy injured in Dothan

DOTHAN, Ala.  (AP) — Dothan police say one person was shot dead and a Houston County Sheriff’s deputy was injured when his patrol vehicle collided with the suspect’s truck.

Authorities say the deputy’s car collided with the truck late Monday after the man apparently fled from a car accident.

Police Sgt. Rachel David says the suspect’s vehicle appeared to slow as authorities reached it, but that the man sped off before his vehicle collided with the patrol vehicle.

David says the suspect exchanged gunfire with other officers and deputies, and both the suspect and the deputy whose vehicle collided with the truck were transported to a hospital.

Houston County Sheriff’s Andy Hughes said the suspect, whose name was not released, died at the hospital.
