Police: Ardmore robbery suspect nabbed 2 minutes after crime
A robbery suspect’s warning about waiting 10 minutes before calling police was not heeded by the victims, and it resulted in the quick arrest of the suspect.
Ardmore, Alabama, Police Chief James Kennedy said a woman walked into the Subway in Ardmore, Tennessee, at about 10:20 a.m. Sunday morning and demanded money. Kennedy said the woman told restaurant employees she was armed.
The suspect wore a hoodie, had her face covered and was also wearing sunglasses. She told employees not to call the police for 10 minutes, but police were called as soon as the suspect left the restaurant.
The woman left the scene in a vehicle, but dispatchers quickly alerted police officers to be on the lookout for the woman. Kennedy said it took only two minutes for Ardmore, Alabama, police officer Jeremy Beavers to locate the suspect’s vehicle and make a traffic stop on Ardmore Avenue.
Kennedy and Lt. David Posey responded to the scene and recovered money taken during the robbery. Kennedy said the loot was discovered in the driver’s side door of the suspect’s vehicle. He added the woman was not armed when the robbery was committed.
Police then returned to the restaurant and reviewed surveillance footage, which Kennedy said confirmed police had the right person.
Based on the evidence, police arrested 28-year-old Leslie Brooke Wallace of Ardmore, Alabama, on a charge of aggravated robbery. She was then taken to the Giles County, Tennessee, jail.
Kennedy said he doesn’t anticipate future arrests as he believes Wallace acted alone. The incident remains under investigation.
