Athens man charged with trafficking, possession after search

An Athens man was arrested on multiple charges after a search warrant turned up drugs, a stolen AR-15 and other items, Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said Monday.

Investigator Jo McClanahan obtained a search warrant for 600 Wright St., which police searched Friday night. They found 29.1 grams of methamphetamine, 25 grams of crack cocaine and 1 gram of marijuana. The value of the drugs is estimated at $5,500, Johnson said.

“Officers also recovered a stolen AR-15 from Huntsville, a 45 mm handgun with an extended clip in the gun, two 9 mm pistols and a shotgun,” the chief said. “Investigators also seized $553 in cash.”

Leonard Yarbrough Jr., 23, was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, second-degree possession of marijuana and third-degree receiving stolen property. In addition, Johnson said, there were warrants for Yarbrough’s arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia, harassment and reckless driving.

Yarbrough was booked at the police department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where bail is set at $27,000.
