Gladys Lorine Adams

The funeral for Gladys Lorine Adams, 61, of Athens, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Spry Funeral Home with Donald Terry and Dwight Raburn officiating. Burial will be in Isom’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Adams died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at home.

She was a member of Truth Baptist Church and an avid bingo player.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lossie Lee and Vera Paulene Carter; a son, Robert Charles Adams; two brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Wayne Adams; three daughters, Brenda Lee Green, Gladys Lurleen Haggermaker and Carol Sue Haggermaker, all of Athens; three sons, Danny Wayne Adams, Bobby Glenn Adams and Darrell Eugene Adams, all of Athens; one brother, Tillman Carter of Athens; one sister, Ether Shedd of Athens; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.



Lance Craig Ewens

The funeral for Lance Craig Ewens, 27, of Huntsville, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens with Bro. Tony Smith officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ewens died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1979 to James Craig Sandvig and Kathy LeJeune in Joliet, Ill.

He is survived by his father, James Craig Sandvig of Madison, Wisc.; his mother, Kathy LeJeune of Toney; his step-father, Frank LeJeune of Toney; a half-sister, Kathleen Sandvig of Madison, Wisc.; a stepbrother, Tony Pacheco of Illinois; a stepsister, Jeanna Pacheco of Illinois; his grandparents, Doyce and Sibel Cribbs of Maywood, Ill.; a nephew, Bryan Harris of Illinois; two aunts and several cousins.

Pallbearers will be Steve Harrison, Steven Weeks, Buddy Martin, Scott Stewart, Michael Haney and Steven Childes.



Lillie Mae Muse

The funeral for Lille Mae Muse, 98, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Spry Funeral Home in Athens. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Muse died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Baptist Medical Center in Nassau, Fla.

She was a member of the Church of Christ of Fernandina Beach and a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Jane Carolyn Sparks of Fernandina Beach; one half brother, Madison Woodfin Jr. of Athens; one half sister, Helen Sammett of Athens; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.



Leon L. Palmer

Leon Loutita Palmer, 85, of Athens, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

He was born Aug. 24, 1920, to J.D. and Rubye Gold Palmer in Harrison, Ga. He was raised in Fort Pierce, Fla., and enlisted in the Army Air Corps the day after Pearl Harbor and served in the South Pacific as group navigator and group special services officer. Mr. Palmer attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was honorably discharged in December 1945.

A graduate of the University of Alabama, Mr. Palmer was active in professional, civic and religious organizations and was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He served on the Planning Committee of the University of Alabama Data Processing Conference. He and his family lived in Miami, Fla., for 20 years before moving to Harrison, Ga. He was retired as executive vice president/chief financial officer of All-Tech Industries Inc., in Miami. A member of the Tennille Christian Church, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and writing poetry. He was a winner of the National Silver Poet Award.

Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Jane Metzger Palmer.

He is survived by four children, Madolyn Palmer Whitt of Elkmont, Leon Loran Palmer of Jacksonville, Fla., Jay Douglas Palmer of West Palm Beach, Fla., and John Warnock Palmer of Athens; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at E.K. May Funeral Home in Sandersville, Ga., with the Rev. Bill Moody officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery in Twin City, Ga.

Memorial donations may be made to Elkmont United Methodist Church.



Sally B. Russell

The funeral for Sally B. Russell, 89, of Athens, will be at 2 p.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home with Bro. George Dudley officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Russell died Friday, May 26, 2006, at Athens Convalescent Center.

She was born Sept. 26, 1916, in Giles County, Tenn., to Will Dunnavant and Della Largent Dunnavant. She was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church.

Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Russell.

She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Curnutt of Athens, Jewel Reid of Cullman, and Christine Dunnavant of Pulaski, Tenn.; five sons, Van Russell of Indiana, and J.W. Russell, Thomas Russell, John “Bo” Russell and Ed Russell, all of Athens; one sister, Elizabeth Tallent of Florida; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Danny Curnutt, Jeffery Collier, Tim Russell, Nathan Dunnavant, Royce Russell and Mike Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Russell, Burt Rowan, Timothy Russell, Dean Curnutt, Stephen Dunnavant and Jackie Curnutt.



Melvia Christine Webster

The funeral for Melvia Christine Webster, 86, of Athens, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Spry Funeral Home with Charles Thompson and Robert Hall officiating.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Bonnertown Cemetery in Tennessee.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Webster died Friday, May 26, 2006, at home.

She was born June 1, 1919, in Cullman County. She was a homemaker and a member of Tanner Church of Christ.

She is survived by one son, John T. Webster and wife Kay of Athens; one granddaughter, Melvia Viola Webster of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Mosley, Herbert Mosley, Jay Mosley, Wayne Mosley, Charles Wray and Henry Carter.

Iona Alexander White

The funeral for Iona Alexander White, 80, of Brentwood, Tenn., will be announced.

Mrs. White died Friday, May 26, 2006, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.
