Arrest made in Athens McDonald’s lot robbery
A Huntsville man has been arrested in connection with a Dec. 2 armed robbery in the parking lot of an Athens McDonald’s restaurant.
Tyrone Kim Edwards Jr., 19, of 2231 Euclid Road N.W., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of first-degree robbery, an official said.
“Our investigation into this case is continuing and we expect more arrests in this case,” Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said.
On Wednesday evening, investigators Kelly Fussell and Jonathan Caldwell found at a home in northeast Huntsville what they believed was the getaway car used in the crime.
When they saw a man leave the residence and drive away in the sedan, they called for assistance from Huntsville Police Department. A short time later, Huntsville patrol units stopped the vehicle on Oakwood Drive and arrested Edwards.
Edwards was booked at the Athens Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where bail is set at $20,000.
The victim had told police he arranged to buy a iPhone 6 for $250 at the McDonald’s parking lot on U.S. 72 East. A man and woman met him. When the victim exited his vehicle, the man struck him in the head with a pistol and stole the money. The two fled to a 2010 silver Kia Optima parked at Taco Bell and escaped with the man driving the car.
