Decatur man accused of fatally choking his roommate
DECATUR, Ala. (AP) — A Decatur man has been charged with murder after authorities say he choked his roommate to death.
News outlets report that 57-year-old Joe Nathan Gibson is accused of killing 54-year-old Thomas Peter Chase during a fight at their home Wednesday night.
Investigators believe Chase died while he was being held in some sort of choke hold or headlock. Decatur police spokesman Lt. Proncey Robertson says both men may have been drunk at the time.
It was Decatur’s first homicide of the year.
Gibson is facing up to life in prison. Online jail records do not indicate whether he has an attorney.
