Athens High posts big area softball win

Victoria Wilson had a huge game at the plate as Athens posted a 15-5 victory over Muscle Shoals Tuesday in a Class 6A, Area 16 clash.

Wilson homered, doubled and singled with three RBIs as the Golden Eagles won the game in five innings.

Emma Ogden had a double, a single and three RBIs while Olivia Patton added a double, a single and two RBIs of her own.

Maddie Wilson was the winning pitcher, striking out four batters in 4 2/3 innings of work.

Athens (7-1, 1-0 area), plays at area rival Hazel Green at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Priceville 5, Elkmont 4

Elkmont dropped a close decision to Priceville on Tuesday despite a good offensive game from Haven Kirby.

Kirby singled, doubled, tripled, drove in a run and scored a run for the Red Devils, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the performance of Priceville’s Destinee Hargrove, who singled, doubled, had two RBIs and scored a run in the winning effort.

Athens 6, Muscle Shoals 0

Athens improved to 2-0 in Class 6A, Area 8 play with a shutout win over Muscle Shoals.

Walter Dubon scored two goals for the Golden Eagles while John David Mathews, Milton Leal Blas, Jason Matzir and Cesar Sanchez scored one goal each.

Matzir, Mathews, Trent Agee, Leo Rodriguez and Sean O’Connor each had assists, while Roberto Ramos and Bryant Barkley combined for the shutout in goal.
