Dino days at Julian Newman Elementary
First-graders at Julian Newman Elementary School in Athens recently learned about dinosaurs, then took on leadership roles and shared their impressive knowledge with others by creating a dinosaur museum for students, teachers and parents to tour this week at the school.
The museum included tour guides dressed like paleontologists, a gift shop, free bookmarks and other features. The students above shared some of the knowledge they garnered during the two-week project-based learning unit.
Paige McLemore, front right, said triceratops means three-horned face. Oliver McGuire, back left, said stegosaurus means covered lizard. Adelynne Gunnels, front left, said tyrannosaurus rex had short arms, walked on two legs and was a carnivore. Eric Warren Prayter Jr., said velociraptors could run 20 to 40 miles per hour.
