First Cider Sippin’ champ named

Village Pizza was the winner of the Sippin’ Cider contest held Dec. 10 in downtown Athens. The public shopped in downtown businesses, sampled cider, enjoyed horse and carriage rides, roasted marshmallows, listened to the Clements Baptist Church Worship Choir and Orchestra, participated in kids crafts, and might have even seen Santa walking around.

Door prizes were awarded to shoppers and diners completing their ballots by sampling at least five recipes. 

Door prize winners were: John Russ of Elkmont, free eight-piece meal at WingZilla Grill; Joyce Malone, Hermitage, Tenn., $25 gift certificate to Village Pizza; Kathy Elliott, Madison, Nebo backpack from U.G. White Mercantile; Houston Elkins, Lafayette, La., Christmas tree door hanger from Trinity’s; Tyler Coggin, Huntsville, $25 certificate from Hyatt & Sims; Kay Smith, Taft, Tenn., $50 certificate Luvici’s ; Lynne Hart, Athens, $20 gift certificate from Pablo’s on Market; Will Reaves, Athens, gift basket from Pimentos; Chloe Neal, Athens necklace set from Claborn Specialties; Teresa Henderson, Decatur, winter accessory basket from Bennett’s ; Sheila Reaves, Athens, Christmas flag from Crawford’s Gifts.
