Tricks, treats and festivals: Area offers week of Halloween activities
Halloween is only a few days away, which means it’s time for trunk or treats, fall festivals and all the goodies a bag and costume pockets can hold.
Here are some of the many events being held this year for trick or treaters, as advertised on social media, in The News Courier’s Limestone Ledger or Church Bulletin, and on community websites. Unless otherwise noted, these events are free and open to the public.
Thursday, Oct. 25
• Cedar Hill Elementary School will host a fall festival from 5 to 8 p.m. at the school, 27905 Cedar Hill Road, Ardmore.
• Creekside Elementary School will host a fall festival from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the school, 15983 Sanderson Road, Harvest.
• Limestone Lodge will host a harvest festival 6–7:30 p.m. with games, a cake walk, food and more at 1532 W. Hobbs St. in Athens.
• The Kiwanis Club of Rogersville will host Trunk or Treat 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rogersville Volunteer Fire Department at 540 Post Office Road, Rogersville. Grilled hamburger meals with chips, drink and snack cake will be available for $5. A costume contest will be held at 7 p.m. Rain date for this event is Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Saturday, Oct. 27
• The second annual Halloween Vendor and Craft Fair will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Vietnam Veterans Building, 17915 W. Elm St., Athens. Trick-or-treating, door prizes, shopping and more will be available.
• Limestone County Flea Market will host the second annual Halloween Weekend Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the flea market, 30030 U.S. 72, Madison. More than 80 vendors will be participating in the event, which includes games, movies and a coloring zone for kids. Costume contests will be 2 p.m. Saturday for kids in age categories 0-4, 5-12 or 13-17. Adults will be able to compete in their own costume contest 2 p.m. Sunday, with categories for couples, scariest and coolest. Bring your carved pumpkin for the chance to win scariest, funniest or most unique contests at noon Sunday.
• Rogersville United Methodist Church will host a Fall Festival Track and Treat from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the church, 51 Turner Lindsey Road, Rogersville. This year’s event includes a toddler area, games, inflatables and an obstacle course. There will also be food, a costume contest, door prizes and a sweet treat giveaway.
• Friendship North’s Harvest Festival 2018 will begin at 5 p.m. at 21960 Easter Ferry Road, Elkmont. Inflatables, hayrides, music, games, food and a cake walk will be available.
• Elk River Baptist Church’s Fall Festival 2018 will be 6 to 8 p.m. at 10020 Upper Snake Road in the Cairo community. A soup dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Games available to play afterward.
Sunday, Oct. 28
• Pineview Baptist Church will host Harvest Fest 2018 from 2 to 6 p.m. at 5614 Alabama 53, Harvest. This community event will include music, a petting zoo, inflatables, games and lots of candy. A food truck will be on-site for those who wish to purchase food.
• Capshaw Kids will host a fall festival from 3 to 6 p.m. at Capshaw Baptist Church, 14944 Dupree Worthy Road, Harvest. Kids can enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo, pumpkins, a hayride, inflatables, live music, free food, games, prizes and more.
• The first-ever Athens Fall Fest will be 3 to 7 p.m. in downtown Athens with food, live music, vendors and games.
• Trunk or Treat with Round Island Baptist Church will be 4 to 7 p.m. at 14790 Brownsferry Road, Athens, with candy, games and food on the schedule.
Monday, Oct. 29
• Trunk or Treat with First Christian Church from 5 to 7 p.m. behind U.G. White in Athens.
Tuesday, Oct. 30
• Traditions of Athens will host a fall gathering from 3 to 6 p.m. with an antique car show, trunk or treat, bouncy house and more at 22171 Traditions Way, Athens. Those who wish to participate can RSVP by calling 256-444-3255.
Halloween, Oct. 31
• Publix in Athens invites children to go trick-or-treating throughout the store from 4 to 7 p.m. Candy or activities will be available in each department.
• The News Courier will hand out candy to trick or treaters who visit the office at 410 W. Green St. in Athens from 4:30 until the candy’s gone.
• Oak Grove-Thach Volunteer Fire Department will host “A Safe Night for Trick or Treaters” from 5 to 7 p.m. at the station, 26850 Thach Road, Athens. Goodie bags, light sticks and pictures with Rescue Randy will be available.
• Tanner United Methodist Church’s Trunk or Treat will take place 5-7 p.m. at the church.
• The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and Athens Police Department will host “Trunk or Treat on the Square” from 5 to 7 p.m. in Athens.
• Berea Baptist Church will host a trunk or treat starting at 5:30 p.m. at the church.
• Wooley Springs Baptist Church will host a trunk or treat with free hot dogs, drinks, popcorn and cotton candy from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the church.
• Piney Grove Baptist Church will host the 10th annual Hallelujah Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ardmore Park on Park Avenue, Ardmore. There will be carnival games, refreshments and candy. In case of rain, the festival will be at the church at 28430 Pinedale Road, Ardmore. The church asks participants to dress in non-scary costumes.
• Salem Springs Baptist Church’s trunk or treat will start at 6 p.m. at the church.
• Sardis Springs Baptist Church’s trunk or treat will start at 6 p.m. and includes free hot dogs and other goodies for those who attend.
• First Baptist Church of Rogersville’s annual Fall Fest will kick off at 6 p.m. at 222 College St., Rogersville. Available activities include a trunk or treat, chili cook-off, games, inflatables, free hot dogs and drinks, candy and prizes.
• St. Mark Primitive Baptist Church will host a hula festival and trunk or treat starting at 6:30 p.m. at 740 W. Sanderfer Road, Athens.
• Welleswood Venue will host drive-thru trick-or-treating with a Wizard of Oz theme from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 1005 Elkton St., Athens.
