A wreck early Monday caused traffic problems along U.S. 72 and Curtis Lane after an 18-wheeler reportedly lost control and landed on its side.

The wreck happened just before 1:30 a.m., 4.5 miles west of Athens, state troopers said.

The driver of the 2018 Freightliner, Eric Humphres, 45, of Phil Campbell, was not injured but his passenger, Renae Littleton, 23, of Florence, suffered minor injuries and went to the hospital by ambulance.

Both Owens and Clements volunteer fire departments worked the wreck. A spokeswoman from Owens said all but one west-bound lane of traffic were closed immediately after the crash.

By 7:30 a.m., both west-bound lanes and one east-bound lane were open.
