Athens Bible scores late to defeat Clements

Athens Bible scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat Clements 8-3 in a tri-match played at West Limestone Friday.

Athens Bible, Clements and West Limestone each played a game against the other.

The Trojans scored two runs in the top of the first on an RBI triple by Cade Abernathy and a run-scoring single by Lee Moyers. West answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Guimarin and a single by Cole Wales.

ABS, ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, took the lead again when Eric Brown doubled in the top of the sixth, but a sacrifice fly by Austin Hall in the bottom of the seventh tied the game again and sent it to extra innings.

However, ABS made quick work of the extra session, scoring five runs in the top of the eighth. The big hits were a two-run single by Kenneth Adams and a run-scoring double by Matthew Usery.

Riley Nave was the winning pitcher, working 2 2/3 innings in relief, while Grey Fortenberry recorded the final two outs of the game to pick up the save.

West Limestone 5, Athens Bible 4

West Limestone scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to complete a comeback and defeat Athens Bible.

The Trojans led 4-0 after scoring a run in the first inning and three more in the top of the third on a three-run double by Brown.

However, West Limestone answered with three runs in the bottom of the third on RBI singles by Dalton Baugher and Levi McCormick and a steal of home by Jesse Rose.

Alec Baugher tripled in the tying run in the bottom of the fourth before the Wildcats scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.

Alec Baugher and McCormick both had two hits for the Wildcats, while Kenneth Adams and Brown both had two hits for Athens Bible.

Gage McKelvey was the winning pitcher, working the final three innings while allowing just one hit.

Clements 10, West Limestone 3

Clements scored eight runs in the final two innings to turn a close game into a comfortable win Friday afternoon.

The Colts led just 2-1 after five innings, but scored two runs in the top of the sixth before putting the game away with six runs in the seventh.

Eli Gilbert, Lucas Bailey, Joseph Harbin each had an RBI single in the seventh for the Colts, while Kyle Shutes drove in Clements’ final two runs with a single of his own.

Alex Cole led Clements with three RBIs, while Ryland Kirk had three hits. Wales, Baily and Gilbert each had two hits.

West Limestone was led by Alec Baugher, who had two hits and two RBIs.

Isaac Evans was the winning pitcher, allowing just two earned runs and striking out five in a complete-game performance.
