Man charged in Madison Co. homicide

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a man has been charged in an Alabama county’s first homicide of 2019.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office tells news outlets 62-year-old Larry Lee Jones was jailed on a murder charge in the shooting of 28-year-old Eric Arredondo. Deputies say Jones was at his home Saturday night when he shot Arredondo.

Lt. Donny Shaw says first responders found Arredondo on the front porch suffering from a gunshot. Shaw says they tried to save him, but he died at the scene.

Shaw says Jones told deputies he shot Arredondo. Investigators haven’t provided details about a motive for the shooting or the relationship between Jones and Arredondo.

Records show Jones was released on $30,000 bail Sunday evening. It is unclear if he has a lawyer who could comment for him.
