2 arrested on contraband charges at Alabama prison
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Two people have been arrested as officials in Alabama try to prevent visitors from bringing illegal items into prisons.
News outlets reported the Alabama Department of Corrections said the two were arrested Saturday at the Bullock Correctional Facility in Union Springs.
Twenty-two-year-old Emily Giles of Porterdale, Georgia, was charged after a police dog found a package containing a controlled substance in a vehicle in which she was a passenger. Giles is charged with illegal possession of marijuana.
Thirty-three-year-old Randy Mallory of Birmingham is charged with illegal possession of marijuana dn illegal possession of a controlled substance. Prison officials say agents found marijuana and crack cocaine during an inspection of his vehicle.
Giles and Malory are at the Bullock County jail. It was not known if they have attorneys yet.
