Tests show Athens kids exposed to meth, cocaine

An Athens woman accused of exposing her children to drugs is facing two felony charges, records show.

Shawna Lois Chambers, 30, of 17717 Nuclear Plant Road, was arrested Sunday on two counts of chemical endangerment of a child, according to Limestone County Jail records.

She was charged following an investigation by the Limestone County Department of Human Resources and the Sheriff’s Office.

According to a report filed Monday in Limestone County District Court by Narcotics Investigator Jamie King, a DHR caseworker notified him Nov. 13 that the agency had received complaints about Chambers using drugs around her children.

Drug tests — both hair and urine — show Chambers had been exposed to benzodiazepines, cocaine and marijuana. Her 3-year-old tested positive for methamphetamine and and her 9-year-old tested positive for cocaine.

The children were placed with a relative, according to King’s report.
