2ND EAST FIRE HOUSE: Dedication ceremony set for Saturday
The East Limestone community is being invited to celebrate the opening of East Limestone Volunteer Fire Department’s second fire station.
The ribbon-cutting and dedication event is set from 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the 25272 Capshaw Road, just east of the intersection of Capshaw and Mooresville roads.
The brick facility was completed in mid-October. It had an estimated price tag between $250,000 and $300,000. Brown said the project was made possible through community donations, a bank loan and a $50,000 donation secured through State Sen. Bill Holtzclaw, R-Madison.
Monday’s fatal fire on Berzett Road was the inaugural run for the new station. The ELVFD backed up Piney Chapel on the call.
Firefighter Kasey Brown, who also serves as president of the ELVFD executive board, said the new station should improve response times on the western side of the department’s fire district.
The Insurance Service Office, or ISO, rating for the ELVFD district is currently a 5 out of 10. Brown said the department would seek a re-evaluation after the station is up and running, since lower ratings could mean lower insurance rates for homeowners.
The station has two vehicle bays and will house an engine and brush truck. Brown said the department’s capital plan calls for a new fire engine and third station in the future but added there is no timeline for those projects.
