Gas pump likely cause of fire that torched trucks
A malfunctioning gasoline pump is believed to be the cause of an Oct. 30 fire at an eastern Limestone County convenience store that destroyed two trucks parked near the pump.
State Fire Marshal Scott Pilgreen told The News Courier Thursday a deputy fire marshal was dispatched to Abby’s Mini Mart at 25547 Nick Davis Road, east of Mooresville Road, to investigate the fire that occurred that morning. The deputy fire marshal believes a malfunction in the pump sparked the fire, Pilgreen said.
Customers at the store at the time of the explosion told the clerk the pump blew up bottom, store clerk Deda Graham said. A man watching the fire burn that Monday afternoon told The News Courier the pumps had been replaced a few months before the fire and someone had been working on the pump that ignited three days before, a point Pilgreen confirmed.
The fire triggered an explosion that rattled nearby homes, two neighbors said.
