Athens man arrested on charges of theft by deception
An Athens man was arrested Friday on charges of first-degree theft by deception because he failed to complete vehicle repairs after being paid, an official said.
Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Stephen Young said Austin Smith Clem, 28, of 607 Corum Circle, worked at Extreme Performance and was paid $3,000 for the vehicle repairs. The victim reported the incident on March 28.
“Clem allegedly refused to return any of the money or complete the work despite being requested to do so for several weeks,” Young said.
During the course of the investigation, Young said it was determined probable cause existed for Clem’s arrest.
Clem is being held on $5,000 bond.
