Decatur man charged in grandmother’s death

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) — A Decatur man has been denied youthful offender status and faces a murder charge in his grandmother’s death.

Lorenzo O’Bryan Langford has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental defect. The 21-year-old Langford is accused of beating his 88-year-old grandmother, Georgeann Sears, to death on Jan. 15, 2010.

Decatur police found Sears inside her home unconscious with severe injuries. Authorities determined that the beating had occurred hours before police found her.

Morgan County Circuit Judge Morgan County circuit judge denied youthful offender status to Langford last week.

Circuit Clerk John Pat Orr says a trial date has not been scheduled.
