Tracking device foils Limestone man accused of stealing truck from dealership

A tracking unit on a Dodge Ram pickup helped authorities find a Limestone County man accused of stealing the vehicle from a Decatur car dealership, an official said.

On Wednesday, an official from a Decatur dealership reported the truck missing. Using the device installed on the truck to track its whereabouts, Officers Allen Rawls and Robbie Bradley found the vehicle. Rawls stopped the driver on Interstate 65 in Limestone County.

Matthew Charles Hyatt, 42, of 22567 Alabama 99, who told authorities he was using the truck to pull a stolen car-hauling trailer, which was carrying another stolen truck. Both the trailer and the truck it was carrying were stolen from Limestone County. Detective Chance Sparks, with the Decatur police property crimes unit, was notified as was the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.

Decatur police arrested Hyatt on charges of first-degree theft of property. He was booked at the Police Department then transferred to the Morgan County Jail, where bail is set at $5,000.

The investigation continues, and Hyatt may face additional charges from Decatur and Limestone County.
