County to hold open house; Pryor named historic location
At a meeting Tuesday morning that was postponed from its regular date because of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, the Limestone County Commission set an open house from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 3, at the Washington Street Courthouse Annex.
The public is invited to talk with Commission Chairman Stanley Menefee and district commissioners.
Also at the meeting, the commission agreed to commit more than $450,000 to create a new public library in the old Kroger building. For more on this subject, see coverage of the library meeting in a related story listed at right, or under Local News at enewscourier.com.
Commissioners also recognized that the Southeast Air Forces Training Center, now Pryor Field, in Limestone County has been added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks & Heritage.
The airfield opened in 1941 for training United States Army Air Corps flying cadets. The field became inactive for Army training in December 1944.
