County starts road improvement project
The Limestone County Commission met Monday to approve a brief agenda of items. Among action, commissioners approved:
• A $66,000 project to traffic stripe and install reflective pavement makers on Pettusville Road, Easter Ferry Road, Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road and Harris Station Road. The county has received a $60,000 grant from the state and must come up with a $6,000 match.
• A 2007 EMPG cooperative agreement for Homeland Security grant program in the amount of $32,039.
• Out-of-state travel for David Freeman to travel to Richmond, Va., July 12-18 to attend a National Association of County Organizations Conference.
• Family leave for Council on Aging Director Emily Haney from March 20 to March 29; and for James Ronald Crouch from March 6 to April 7.
• Promotion of Justin Romine to equipment operator III in District 4; Michael Shane Black as equipment operator III in the Engineering Department, effective Monday
• Merit increases for Jimmy Gatlin, William B. Curnutt, Eric D. King, Linda Patterson, Jennifer Reece, William Royals and Andrew Vanschoiack.
• Preliminary approval for two new subdivisions: Quail Ridge, Addition 1, at Lewis Road and Johnson Road in District 1 and seven new lots at Tremont Subdivision at Benford and Capshaw roads.
• Speed limits: Lewis Road, District 1, 35 mph; Henderson Road, District 2, 35 mph; and Fogg Lane, District 1, 25 mph.
• Sale of six vehicles on the Web site GovDeals.com.
Other business:
• Chairman David Seibert announced a grievance hearing for Mitchell Robertson, District 4 employee, to be held after the regular meeting.
• District 2 Commissioner Gerald Barksdale said he attended a TVA board meeting to discuss reservoir levels, which is a concern due to lack of rain.
• The commission will meet 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Washington Street Annex.
