County leaders to attend Orange Beach conference

Limestone County Commissioners will again participate in the Association of County Commissions of Alabama annual event, slated for next week in Orange Beach.

County administrator Pam Ball said all commissioners but District 4 Commissioner Bill Daws would attend the three-day event, running from Tuesday through Thursday at the Perdido Beach Resort.

About 500 elected county leaders and county employees are expected to attend the 83rd annual event. Ball said Limestone commissioners “go every year” and money had been set aside in this year’s budget for the conference.

The theme of this year’s conference, “Between a Rock and a Hard Place,” is signified by difficult decisions faced by county leaders, according to a press release. Major topics of discussion will include economic projections for the coming year, implementing the new immigration law and tales from Tuscaloosa’s tornado aftermath.

National Association of Counties President Lenny Eliason of Ohio will also address attendees. Etowah County Commissioner Tim Choate is expected to assume his role as president of the association for 2011-2012.

ACCA is a statewide organization representing county government in Alabama that promotes improved county government services, offers educational programs for county officials and their staff members, administers insurance programs for county governments and employees, offers legal advice and represents the interest of county government before state and federal organizations and agencies.
