The Limestone County Commission presented retirement certificates to Limestone County Chief Deputy Jimmy Landers and two other county employees Monday.

“We wish you well,” said Chairman David Seibert. “You have been good county employees and we will miss you all.”

Landers, District 1 Foreman Freddy Puckett and District 3 employee Toney Brooks are retiring. Landers’ last day on the job is July 31.”

“I’m going to do something, but right now I don’t know for sure what it will be,” Landers said of his plans after retirement. Randy King, a veteran county lawman who has been in the county investigative and drug divisions, is replacing Landers.

In other business, the commission:

• Appointed Brad Curnutt to the investigative division of the Sheriff’s Department

• Reappointed Seibert to the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association.

• Accepted a grant of $203,675 for Field Regional Airport in south Limestone County for safety measures to stop planes if a plane fails to brake and overruns the runway.

Stan Smith with North Alabama Aviation said the Federal Aviation Administration grant would pay for a runway safety area free of obstacles.

• Approved travel by county vehicle to Little Rock, Ark. for Emergency Management Agency Director Spencer Black July 20-24 to look at Homeland Security equipment

• Hired James Hargrave as part-time seasonal grounds keeper at Cowford Campground

• Approved new subdivisions on Oak Grove Road in District 1; Buzzard Roost Road in District 4 and two new subdivisions on Gatlin Road in District 1

• Gave permission to Eric Roberts to run a private waterline on the east side of Bob White Lane from Browns Ferry Road approximately 600 feet

• Approved merit salary increases for Pam Ball, Michael Boyles, Emily Ezell, Teresa Hall, Freddie Puckett, Justin Romine, William Russell, Frank Sandefer, Maggie Settle, Kawana Smith and Matthew Wassum.
