Elkmont man privately stashed fake bills
When a Limestone County sheriff’s investigator was questioning a suspect Thursday about allegedly printing fake $20 bills, the man confessed to the crime and admitted he had some of the bills on him. He then produced eight $20 bills he had, one might say, stashed below deck.
Adam Troy Chambers, 31, of 21394 Old Elkmont Road, is charged with 21 counts of first-degree possession of a forged instrument and two counts of possession of a forgery device, records show. He remained in the Limestone County Jail Thursday with bail set at $110,000.
Narcotics Investigators Jamie King and Anthony Bruno had received information that Chambers was printing counterfeit money in his motel room, said Deputy Stephen Young, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday, the investigators stopped Chambers in his Dodge truck on U.S. 31 in Athens.
At the behest of the investigators, Chambers took them to his motel room. There, the investigators obtained enough information to get a search warrant. While searching his room, the investigators found two printers they believe were used to print counterfeit $20 bills as well as 13 counterfeit bills and other items they believe were used in the counterfeiting process, Young said.
While Investigator Caleb Durden was interviewing Chambers at the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Thursday, Chambers admitted counterfeiting $20 bills and said he had some of the bills in his possession, according to a report filed in Limestone County District Court. Durden said Chambers retrieved eight bills from between his buttocks and tucked behind his scrotum.
