BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say Auburn University football coach Gene Chizik and University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban will be spokesmen for an Alabama mental health program aimed at helping people cope with tornadoes and other disasters that have struck the state.

The Birmingham News reports that Project Rebound was formed after Hurricane Ivan.

Authorities say it has helped victims of Hurricane Katrina, the Gulf oil spill and other crises and is now in place for survivors of the April 27 tornadoes.

Officials say the program includes a 24-hour call center and more than 200 crisis counselors who are dispatched into communities where residents are recovering from disasters.

Alabama Department of Mental Health Commissioner Zelia Baugh said teams will meet with people at homes, schools, community centers or local coffee shops.
