REELED IN: Fishing show pays visit to Athens-Limestone
Professional anglers and the hosts of a national fishing show paid a visit Wednesday to the Athens-Limestone area to film a segment and learn more about the area.
Portions filmed here as part of “Fishing University” will begin airing next month on the Outdoor, Sportsman and World Fishing channels. In addition to highlighting local fishing spots, the show will also showcase other local outdoor recreation, shopping, dining and tourism opportunities.
The city of Athens, Limestone County and Athens-Limestone Tourism Association worked together to help bring the show to Athens and Limestone County.
“Fishing University” hosts Charlie Ingram and Ray Brazier led a program at the Limestone County Career Technical Center and shared information with students about outdoor career opportunities. Members of the Athens High School fishing team joined the tech school students for the presentation.
Other speakers included professional anglers David Kilgore, Steve Wisdom, TH Marine founder Bill Huntley, outdoorsman and writer Danny Johnson and Limestone County Extension Coordinator Chris Becker.
The speakers’ message to the students included not letting self doubt keep them from chasing their dreams, the importance of maintaining their integrity and seeking a career they love.
About the hosts
Ingram is one of the only bass pros to take a president fishing. Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush fished with Ingram as secret service agents followed in boats.
Brazier is a veteran tournament angler with motocross and maritime racing experience.
