Sheriff: Man armed with AK-47 shot after carjacking
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (AP) — An alleged carjacking in east Alabama resulted in a police chase and has ended with a suspect being shot by police.
Macon County Sheriff Andre Brunson tells WSFA-TV that a motorist was sleeping in his vehicle at a gas station off Interstate 85 early Wednesday when he was awakened by four men. One of the suspects took the man’s car and the other three left in another vehicle.
Brunson says officers pursued the man in the stolen car, and officers finally found him with an AK-47 along a road. A deputy shot the man, whose condition hasn’t been released.
Both the wounded suspect and the officer were treated at a hospital, and the original carjacking victim suffered injuries that include broken bones.
The search continues for the three other men.
