Limestone principal placed on leave; audit underway at Career Tech
Limestone County Schools has placed the director of the Career Technical Center on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of the school’s finances, school officials said Wednesday.
“Our director of our Career Tech Center, Mr. Mickey Glass, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation,” said Superintendent Dr. Tom Sisk Wednesday morning.
Glass was placed on leave Tuesday, and an auditor is currently reviewing the school’s finances.
“It did not involve the misconduct of a child,” Sisk said. “Right now, the investigation involves some auditors, and we have a forensic auditor on site right now.”
Law enforcement also is involved in the investigation, but Sisk referred further information to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
“We were contacted by school authorities, and our investigators are part of the investigation at this time,” said Sheriff Mike Blakely. “It is possible the FBI could also become involved.”
Both Sisk and Blakely declined to provide specific details about what prompted the investigation since Glass has not been charged with a crime and the probe is ongoing.
The superintendent said he met with the Career Tech teachers and support staff yesterday to explain his actions.
“They understand why I’m doing what I’m doing,” he said.
A message left on Glass’ cellphone Wednesday was not returned.
It is the policy of the central office to automatically put a school employee on paid leave when an investigation is being conducted and immediately re-instate the employee if cleared of any wrongdoing.
Glass is in his third year as Career Tech director after previously serving as principal at Elkmont High School. He is in his final year of a three-year contract approved by the school board in June 2011.
“I have placed Mr. Vince Green as the interim director until such time the board has an opportunity to review the results of the investigation and determine what the next step should be,” Sisk said.
Green is the athletic director and an assistant principal at Tanner High School.
