Butcher knife, beer bottle used in fight; two Athens women jailed

One woman was swinging a butcher knife and the other a beer bottle late Friday night, resulting in one woman being injured and taken to the hospital, said Athens Police Capt. Marty Bruce.

The fight occurred in the parking lot of Peppertree Apartments on East Elm Street. Police broke up the fight and later jailed both suspects.

Myra Nicole Scott, 23, of 100 East Sanderfer Road, Athens, and Amanda Kay White Raybon, 32, of 1206 Plainview Circle, Athens, were arrested. Scott is charged with second-degree assault, while Raybon was charged with menacing.

Bruce said Monday that police received a call to a fight at the apartment complex at approximately 11:20 p.m. Friday, and when officers Katrina Johnson and Daniel McNatt arrived on the scene they found the two women fighting in the parking lot.

Bruce said police were told that Scott called a male friend, and Raybon got on the phone and started threatening her and calling her names. He said Scott and her sister allegedly went to the apartment complex and confronted Raybon. He said witnesses said that Raybon came outside with a butcher knife in hand and started swinging it at Scott. The knife cut Scott’s jacket, police said.

“That is when Scott hit Raybon in the head with a beer bottle,” Bruce said. “She had a laceration on her hand, and an ambulance was called and took her to Athens-Limestone Hospital, where she was treated and released in the emergency room.”
