In our view: Reapportionment issue not about politics, but what’s best for Limestone

An article in Sunday’s edition of The News Courier focused on the subject of reapportionment and how it may affect Limestone County’s future.

There is certainly some concern about how the chips may fall when the subject of state reapportionment comes up next year. Former Probate Judge Mike Davis expressed concern that more is not necessarily better when it comes to the county’s representation in Montgomery.

His view — and it may not be that far-fetched — is that having representatives who live in Limestone County is better for the county’s interests as a whole when it comes to state legislation that impacts Limestone residents. With Madison County continuing its westward march in Limestone County through annexation, Limestone may face a tougher and tougher time having its concerns heard in Montgomery.

Some may chalk up comments made by Davis — an ardent Democrat — as partisan scare tactics. However, this issue is not about Republicans and Democrats; it’s about each resident standing up and wanting what’s best for the county in terms of representation.

The very future of Limestone County may depend on it.
