Athens man charged with domestic violence
An Athens man has been charged with domestic violence and interfering with a 911 call for allegedly choking his girlfriend and refusing to let her call for help, according to a release from the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
The girlfriend told authorities June 4 her boyfriend, Brandon Wayne Murphy, had choked and beaten her, the release said. During a June 5 video interview, she accused him of taking her phone away when she tried to call 911 and threatening to kill her.
According to the report, the girlfriend told Limestone Sheriff’s Lt. Jay Stinnett that “Brandon said he was going to kill her and he went to the bedroom to get a gun.” She also told Stinnett, “She ran out to get help.”
The girlfriend had marks on her face and neck that were photographed by deputies, according to the report.
Murphy, 34, of 20477 Lovell Drive, was arrested Wednesday on charges of domestic violence (strangulation), third-degree domestic violence (assault) and interfering with a domestic violence emergency call. He was released from Limestone County Jail on a $4,000 bond.
