BREAKING: Teen arrested on armed robbery charge
A Limestone teen was charged with armed robbery early Saturday after he pulled a pistol on two acquaintances and took their money, an official said.
Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said a 17-year-old and 18-year-old were buying a drink at the Vulcan gas station on U.S. 72 shortly before midnight Friday when an old friend approached them for a ride. The two teens agreed and all three got into a car and headed north on Hine Street.
Johnson said when they stopped at the intersection of Hine and Brownsferry Street, the man who asked for a ride — 18-year-old Lee Morris Hisbon Jr. — pulled a pistol and demanded all their money. After Hisbon left the car, the victim drove to Athens-Limestone Hospital and called police.
A short time later, Lt. Dusty Meadows and Sgt. Brandon Turner found Hisbon at a friend’s house on York Lane and apprehended him. After being questioned by Investigator Kelly Fussell, Hisbon was charged with first-degree robbery.
After being booked at Athens Police Department, he was transferred to the Limestone County Jail where he was released on a $20,000 bond.
