UPDATED: Athens man charged after morning shooting
An Athens man has been charged with reckless endangerment following a shooting Friday morning at a Limestone County convenience store, an official said.
Limestone County Deputy Stephen Young said Brandon Julian Dement, 37, of 603 Hoffman St., was booked into the Limestone County Jail Friday evening. He also was charged with one count of carrying a concealed weapon with a permit.
Limestone County Sheriff’s Office received a call just before 11 a.m. that there were shots fired in the convenience store parking lot, and one subject had been hit. The caller said the shooter left the scene in a white sedan. The victim also left the scene before deputies arrived.
Young said investigators determined that Dement and one other male subject had gotten into an altercation in the parking lot. Young said Dement fired at the victim twice, missing him both times. Neither the victim nor anyone else had been struck by the gunfire.
After reviewing security video of the incident and interviewing the victim, offender and witnesses, Dement was arrested. He has been released on $1,750 bond.
