The Athenian Players present ‘The Phantom Lady’

The Athenian Players will perform Pedro Calderón de la Barca’s “The Phantom Lady” at the Studio Theatre at the Alabama Center for Arts in Decatur. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11, 16, 17 and 18, with a special matinee performance at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Alabama Center for the Arts Box Office at 133 Second Ave., online at http://athens.edu/athenianplayers/upcoming-productions/ or by phone at 256-260-3307. Discounted tickets are available for students and seniors.

Directed by Dr. Hugh Long, assistant professor of drama and English at Athens State University, the two-hour play explores the plight of a young widow in 16th-century Spain. Confined to her home under the careful eye of two overprotective brothers, Angela must scheme to meet up with her lover. She uses a moving panel in the wall to thwart her brothers and in the process, convinces one of their guests, Don Manuel, that the home is being haunted by the “Phantom Lady.”

Sword fights ensue, mistaken identities abound and a romance blooms.

The Athenian Players are the resident theatre company at ASU, drawing their cast and crew from the ASU student body, nearby schools and the local community. The players produce a play each semester.
