Williams advances in Women’s State Amateur
Athens’ Ally Williams comfortably advanced past the first round of the Alabama Women’s State Amateur being played at The Country Club of Birmingham.
Williams, a rising senior at Athens High School, finished the stroke play portion of the tournament in a tie for seventh place in a field of 33 players, completing her round with a 5-over-par 76, three strokes behind leaders Sophie Burks, of Equality and Hoover’s Carson McKie.
The Women’s State Amateur is competed over one round of stroke play qualifying, followed by four rounds of match play after a cut. The top 16 players following the stroke play round advance to the championship match play bracket.
The match play round of 16 matchups will begin 7:30 a.m. Thursday, with the quarterfinal round following Thursday afternoon. The semifinals and championship matches will take place Friday.
