SPORTS HALL OF FAME: Registration open for annual golf tourney

Area golfers with a heart for helping others are encouraged to sign up for the Limestone County Sports Hall of Fame’s annual golf tournament.

The tournament will be held Saturday, June 24, at Southern Gayles Golf Course, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The cost is $240 per four-man team and registration is open until June 23.

“This is our big fundraiser … and the money that is raised here helps fund scholarships,” said Barry Devine, event spokesman.

This year’s recipients were Alysia Anderson and Karley Menefee. Both graduated in May with GPAs above 4.0. Each received a $3,000 scholarship.

Anderson played basketball, softball and volleyball at Clements High School. She plans to play softball and major in nursing at Wallace State University.

Menefee is a graduate of Elkmont High School, where she played basketball and volleyball. She will attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville this fall.
