Alvin Stanford

Funeral for Alvin Chester Stanford, 88, of Athens will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Cherry Grove Baptist Church with Jessie Littrell and Bill Gandy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Stanford died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at his home.

He was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Limestone County. He was a retired farmer, and also retired from TVA. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Chambers of Athens; granddaughter, Debbie Gandy and husband Bill of Southside; great-granddaughter, Kelley Branch and husband Robert of Gadsden; great-great-grandchildren , Alyssa Branch, Jamie Branch and Robbie Branch; a sister, Mary Murphree of Decatur; and a brother, Lavaughn Stanford of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Robert Branch, Kenneth Rose, Donnie Williams, Gyn Rose, Phillip McCurry and Robert McCurry.

Honorable pallbearers will be Dale Ridgeway and Tommy McCurry.
