Alabama headlines tornado relief concert
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Country super group Alabama is headlining a major concert in Birmingham to both raise money for tornado relief and remind people that survivors of the twisters are still suffering and need help.
The legendary band from Fort Payne will both open and close the Bama Rising show set for Tuesday night at the BJCC Arena. In between are 18 acts including Rodney Atkins, Dierks Bentley, the Blind Boys of Alabama, the Commodores, Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley and Darius Rucker.
The show is sold out except for a few $1,000 VIP packages, and proceeds will go to the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham. Alabama band members Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook tell The Associated Press they’ll serve on a board to help distribute the money for tornado relief.
