Resurfacing work on 99 underway
If you’re experiencing traffic delays on Alabama 99 in western Limestone County, be aware they may continue for several days.
The resurfacing of the state route from New Cut Road to the Lauderdale County line began last week. Alabama Department of Transportation Spokesman Seth Burkett said Monday there is a 45-working day timeline on the project but it could wrap up in two to three weeks, depending on the weather.
Gadsden-based Charles E. Watts was awarded the $1.74 million project. The total project length is 16.79 miles.
The effort involves laying down a scrub seal, followed by microsurfacing. The surface treatments will then be followed by permanent traffic striping.
Burkett said crews are waiting until 8 a.m. to begin daily work to reduce impact on school traffic.
