In the ring: Athens Youth Wrestling Club opens season

The Athens Youth Wrestling Club kicked off its season last week, with 28 children placing in the Buckhorn Youth Tournament.
Athens had three wrestlers secure first place, eight notch second place, eight garner third place, six collect fourth place and three claim fifth place.
“Jon Ryan Doolittle and Collier Fitzpatrick were the most outstanding wrestlers,” coach Mondell Hunter said. “We have a lot returning wrestlers that have really helped our new kids get acclimated to wrestling in terms of technique and the toughness it takes to compete in every match. But as coaches, we also know we have wrestlers who have not wrestled since last season, so there are a lot of the basics that we need to continue to improve on.”
