ALL-COUNTY VOLLEYBALL: Lucas ‘worked really hard’ for MVP honor

The margin of error in volleyball is paper thin.

East Limestone’s volleyball team battled Guntersville for five games in the second round of the Super Regional last month only to lose 15-13 and come up just short of a state tournament appearance.

East is clearly the best in Limestone County and a big reason for that is the play of sophomore Anna Lucas, who was voted the Most Valuable Player by the county’s six coaches.

Lucas did a little bit of everything for East Limestone, which finished the season at 39-9. After being named Co-MVP by the county’s coaches her freshman year, Lucas averaged 12.5 kills, 6.7 digs, 1.24 aces and 1.7 blocks per game this season.

“Last year, she was the Co-MVP and she told me her goal was the the MVP before her senior year,” said East Limestone head volleyball coach Nicole Eslick. “She worked really hard to see this goal come to be real.”

Along with reaching the quarterfinals at the North Regional, East Limestone finished runners-up in 5A Area 16 and won the Limestone County Tournament.
