It’s a great week in Athens for restaurant goers as three new restaurants are opening and one favorite returns.
Old Black Bear Brewing Company opened its doors 11 a.m. Monday morning, just in time for lunch. The new restaurant and brewery held a private soft opening Friday and a family and friends night Saturday before opening to the public Monday.
“A wonderful meal in a great atmosphere with good company and excellent service. The staff was knocking it out of the ballpark,” Athens councilwoman Dana Henry said. “Welcome to the neighborhood.”
Old Black Bear is located at 311 S. Marion Street in Athens.
The Salty Cod, a traditional British pub located at 309 West Market Street in Athens, posted to its social media Saturday, “Now all we are missing is you. See you Wednesday!”
The Salty Cod will specialize in authentic fish and chips, rotisserie chicken, seafood, Italian gelato, and a variety of European and domestic beers, ales, wines, liquors, and more.
After closing for a remodel at the end of May, the Chick-fil-A in Athens, located at 1291 US Hwy 72 E, reopened Monday morning to a huge crowd ready for their favorite chicken sandwich.
On the west side of Athens, Jack’s Family Restaurant celebrated with the Athens-Limestone Chamber of Commerce at its grand opening and ribbon cutting at the chain’s third location in Athens. The new West Athens Jack’s is located at 15959 Lucas Ferry Road.
Four more restaurants are slated to open in downtown Athens in the very near future. Local favorite Ro’s will relocate to downtown as well as The Southern Table, Studio 16 Cigar Lounge and Li’l Mazzara’s Italian Kitchen.
