The Alabama Ethics Commission on Wednesday voted to send an ethics complaint against Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office for investigation.
According to a statement from Ethics Commission Executive Director Tom Albritton, the commission, “found probable cause to believe (Blakely) had violated the Alabama ethics act and referred the matter to the Alabama attorney general’s office.”
Albritton said the vote was 4-0 with one abstention.
The complaint was discussed in executive session, so the basis of the complaint has not been made public.
Blakely said he did not know what the complaint entails. He himself learned of the matter just after the commission voted on the matter.
“I respectfully disagree with the ethics commission’s findings, and I feel like once the attorney general’s office vets this, I will be exonerated,” the sheriff said.
Blakely referred all other questions to his attorney, Dan Totten.
