Local, state and federal agents across the southeast worked together during the past week to arrest five Alabama residents, including one from Ardmore, on charges ranging from failing to provide sex-offender registration information to dissemination of Internet child pornography, an official said.
Jesse Thornton with the Alabama Department of Public Safety said Friday special agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit teamed with the local, state and federal agencies to make the arrests and to seize numerous digital devices containing child pornography.
“ALEA’s ICAC Unit is focused on locating and arresting predators who use digital media and devices to prey on children,” Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier said. “This multijurisdictional initiative is a true testament to the efforts of law enforcement to protect our children.”
Three of the five men arrested are facing child pornography charges, including:
• Michael Brandon, 37, of Hoover, one count possession of child pornography and one count dissemination of child pornography, records show. He was being held in Jefferson County Jail.
• Darren Venable, 26, of Rainbow City, three counts possession of child pornography. He was being held in Etowah County Jail.
• Anthony Andrew Tew, 67, of Eufaula, two counts possession of child pornography and two counts dissemination of child pornography. He was being held in Barbour County Jail.

Ardmore resident Richard Bryant, 60, and Decatur resident David Adam Knight, 35, were each charged with failure to provide required registration information as a sex offender, records show. Neither man is charged with possession or dissemination of child pornography, records show. Thornton said Friday night he could not go into much detail other than Bryant and Knight are already sex offenders and that ALEA’s ICAC Unit is not finished with its investigation.
Bryant was brought into the Limestone County Jail at 11:32 a.m. Friday, said Limestone County Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Capt. Stanley McNatt. Bail is set at $15,000. Deputy Steve Crowley assisted ALEA in serving the arrest warrant, McNatt said. Knight is being held in Morgan County Jail, records show.
ALEA’s ICAC Unit partnered with the Hoover Police Department, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Decatur Police Department, Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, Dale County Sheriff’s Office, Eufaula Police Department, Phenix City Police Department, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Georgia Bureau of Investigations. Additionally, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and SWAT Team were instrumental in the bust, Thornton said.
Officials said nothing further is available as the investigation continues.
