An Athens man is facing an assault charge for shooting another man in the chest Friday afternoon, an official said.
Randall Wade Chambers, 33, of 17717 Nuclear Plant Road, Athens, was arrested Friday evening on charges of aggravated non-family assault with a gun and failure to pay child support, said Deputy Stephen Young, public information officer for the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office. Chambers remained in the Limestone County Jail Monday afternoon, with bail set at $30,000.
On March 22, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a man had been shot at a home on Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road, Young said. The suspect in the shooting, identified as Chambers, was said to be armed after the incident. During the search, Young had advised members of the public not to approach if they made contact with Chambers.
Later that night, Chambers was arrested at Geezburger restaurant at 13951 Shaw Road, Young said. Two women were interviewed in connection with Chambers but were not charged, he said.
Young said Monday the victim had been shot once in the chest with a small-caliber handgun but was not critically injured. He was not sure if the victim had been released from the hospital.
