Athens High School Finance Academy had the opportunity to visit with Alexis Gardner’s first-grade class at FAME Academy at Brookhill Elementary, on April 30, to teach a financial literacy lesson.
This innovative peer-to-peer model, by the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, brought high school personal finance to elementary students.
The Jump$tart Teen Teach-In, in conjunction with National Financial Literacy Month, exposed elementary students to financial literacy concepts through engaging instruction led by their older peers.
“This is a national initiative that I am thrilled to bring to Athens City Schools,” Brandi Foster, Athens’ finance academy teacher, said. “I am so excited that our students were able to participate in Teen Teach-In and share with our elementary students. Jump$tart has an amazing curriculum and this is just one program that we were able to showcase.”
Financial Literacy Month, started by the National Endowment for Financial Education and Jump$tart, promoted the importance of advancing financial literacy education for students through communication, collaboration and a commitment to effectiveness.
