Downtown Athens was crawling Saturday, March 16, to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

The holiday was not until March 17, but event organizers decided to celebrate in the days before. On Friday evening, Athens Alehouse offered a family-friendly event with activities for children as well as drinks for the adults.

Then, after the Boutique Crawl during the day, the streets were flooded with green. Comments on social media suggested that the crowd was larger than the participants expected.

Athens Main Street said that they did not organize the event but were happy to be a part of spreading the word.

“It was so exciting to see people having a wonderful time downtown for the St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl. The turnout was huge. Lucinda Sims deserves a big thank you for organizing this event. Athens Main Street was happy to promote this event and get the word out,” said executive director Tere Richardson, who looks forward to St. Patrick’s Day 2025 already.
