Many people complain about the weather. The Limestone County Commission did something about it.
Commissioners unanimously voted to approve proposed revisions to the county’s inclement weather policy on May 3, after hearing from disgruntled employees about the Jan. 15, ice storm during the past few weeks.
The approved revision, “Option 1,” will give extra pay, similar to vacation time, to essential employees who were previously without any incentives for days missed due to inclement weather.
“Everybody is essential at some point; we can’t operate without every single employee in some form or fashion,” Collin Daly, commission chairman, said. “That’s why I don’t like that phrase, but I know it has to be there for policy reasons.”
Other approved revisions included “Option 2,” which will give time-and-a-half pay updates to the county personnel policies and procedures. The final approved revision on the matter was “Option 3,” which will award compensation time updates to the aforementioned policies and procedures.
“First of all, I want to just thank all the commissioners for their effort in working forward with this,” Daly said. “We got this situation right here going, and I want everybody to know that these procedures are for the employee benefits.”
