There are multiple reports of power outages throughout the City of Athens late Tuesday night.
According to the City of Athens social media pages, Athens Utilities has begun their investigation into the cause of the power outages affecting various areas within the city limits.
Athens Police Chief Anthony Pressnell informed The News Courier that the cause of the power outages was a snake in the Peach Orchard Substation.
According to city officials, utility crews are working to restore power within city limits. No timetable has been set as to when power will be restored.
Pressnell also noted a downed tree on power lines out in the county, but that had no effect on the power outages in the city.
